If your child is joining you during your visit, you have the option to place them in a Buffalo Public School which offers a free education. It is the responsibility of the visiting scholar to register their child for school. Visiting Scholar Services will provide you with information upon request. Click on the link for more information:
If your child is under the age of 4 and you would like to place them in a childcare, you may have the option of using the Buffalo State Childcare, which is conveniently located on Buffalo State's campus. Please click the link below.
It is the responsibility of the visiting scholar to register their child for school. The following information will be helpful in this process.
Note: The following documents must be translated in English. See below for more details:
Birth Certificate (if born in the U.S.)
I-94 or Passport (if born outside the U.S.)
Updated Immunization Records
Physical Exam or Date of Physical and Name of Doctor (a physical is required within 30 days after registration)
Previous School Records (K-12)
Verification of Local Address (may use lease agreement or any utility bill)
Parent/Guardian Photo I.D.
* If documents need to be translated to English, you can either ask someone that you may know who can do this for you or contact the International Institute located at 864 Delaware Ave.

Once you have all of your documents ready, contact BPS Central Office at (716) 816-3717 to make an appointment with the Student Placement Office for registration.
* If the student’s home language or native language is other than English he/she will need to take a Language Assessment Test provided by Central Office. This can be taken on the same day of registration.

* Be sure to bring all necessary documents and the student with you on your scheduled registration date. The parent/guardian must accompany the student. Central Office will walk you through the registration process at that time.
Note: Spots may be limited if the student requires an English as a Second Language (ESL) class. During registration they will provide you with all available locations.
