The Global Mentor Program is a program designed to connect committed student mentors with incoming international students and new to the US students. The goal of this program is to support academic achievement, social competence on campus, and to facilitate smooth adjustment into the SUNY Buffalo State community. By sharing experiences and insights, mentors can ease the transition process of new international student experience.
Pairs current Buffalo State students, with new incoming international and new to the US students. Students new to Buffalo State, who are interested can email the ISSS Office to be given a mentor.
Global Student Mentors and new student mentees are expected to mutually agree on meeting times and venues. During these weekly meetings, students can pose questions and gain insight from their mentor and fellow mentees as well as discuss relevant topics as they pertain to student success, student engagement, shared experiences, and any other topics of interest.
Any current Buffalo State student who is interested in helping others and is willing to share his or her time, effort, and energy to help others succeed here at Buffalo State, is welcome to become a Global Mentor. If you are an undergraduate in your sophomore, junior, senior year or a graduate student, you may apply.
Please feel free to contact the Office of International Student and Scholar Services during office hours if you have any questions in regards to the Global Mentor Program, or email herrittl@buffalostate.edu.
